A poem written for Victoria's birth by a good friend

The sweat is pouring down my face,
You only stand and stare…….
My body aches all over,
The pain too much to bear.
I scream at you: 'Get out of here!'
You turn and flee the room.
I flop back upon the bed.
Will this agony end soon?
But no, here it comes again,
The white hot heat of pain.
I fight it with my very being,
Will my body take the strain?
I open my eyes and see you there,
You eyes are full of tears.
'Im sorry for this my darling'
Your voice, it shakes with fear.
You take my hand and squeeze it tight,
And mop my fevered brow
The pain comes back, I start to scream:
'Please stop it hurting NOW!'
The pain subsides, the tears they flow,
I feel I want to die,
But wait - what's that? We start to laugh…
As we hear our first born cry…………
